Born four months early at just 18 ounces, Rachel was a true miracle. For the first nine months after her birth she was in a neonatal intensive care unit fighting for her life against numerous life-threatening conditions while her family rallied by her side. This is an inspiring story that not only documents a child’s remarkable battle for survival and coping with unique special needs, but also a family’s fantastic odyssey to China to adopt a sister.
Rachel’s story is not only meaningful for those families whose lives have been affected by infertility, prematurity, developmental disabilities or adoption, but will touch all persons who have ever confronted challenges that have seemed greater than themselves. Told from the perspective of a father who is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at a leading medical school, the reader will find inspiration in the invaluable lessons of love, courage, hope and ultimately, the acceptance of our common humanity.
